Are You PHAT Like J. Lo?
At What Point Does Baby Weight Become Just Plain Fat?
by Heather Traves (Wife and Mother of Two)

The answer to this question is different for everyone. For some women it happens in a few months and for others it can take years. It’s simply the point at which you give up on yourself. It’s the point at which you’ve successfully convinced yourself that you can’t ever regain your pre-pregnancy figure. Most importantly, it’s the moment in time when you decide that everyone else’s health and welfare is more important than your own. This can be a very depressing time for a new mother, and it may happen at any time, or if you’re lucky, it won’t happen at all.

Average weight gain during pregnancy is between 25 and 35 pounds and many women gain even more than that. Once the baby is born, hormones continue to rage, nights are long and sleepless and the demand of caring for an infant’s every need begins to wear physically and mentally. So, as new mothers, often, the thought of trying to diet or exercise in an effort to lose those baby pounds can seem too much to even consider.

I’m inspired by women like Madonna and Tanya Hutchison, the 45-year-old mother of 5 who won last year's TV Land’s She’s Got The Look! modeling competition.
Hooking up with Madonna’s touted personal trainer, however, is a lotto-winning daydream.
So I asked some experts what a more busy mom who works out regularly, avoids processed food and drinks green tea like crazy can do. Lots, it turns out: Eat, exercise and even sleep smarter.
